Daniel Hernández

PhD student and Foreign language professional in Barcelona, España

I am 34 and was born in Mexico City. I hold a BA with Honours in Modern Languages, an MA in Translation and Interpretation and I recently graduated from the MULTIELE Erasmus Mundus program (Master degree in Learning and Teaching of Spanish in Multilingual and International Contexts) from which I was elected as representative by the European Comission. During this period, I was settled down in Spain for a year, then I moved to Germany where I spent the second one.

Languages and cultures are my passion. From 2008 to 2013 I worked as a translator-interpreter for the Mexican government and also worked at university level performing both teaching and administrative duties as a programme coordinator. My professional experience includes internships in USA, France and Brazil. I have carried out research and published articles about Mexican indigenous languages, multilingualism and multiculturalism. My expertise field is Sociolinguistics and I am currently pursuing my PhD in Education (Language policy and planning). I speak English, French, Portuguese, German, Catalan, Nahuatl and am also learning the ropes in Italian, Russian and Chinese.

Currently, I live in Barcelona due to profesional and personal reasons. On a more personal note, I'm a relaxed, friendly and loyal person, always willing to learn from people. Maybe I tend to be a bit perfectionist and fond of order. I love reading, writing, watching movies at home, cooking, hanging out with friends, playing with my dogs and swimming. From January 2012 to March 2013 I was fighting against cancer. This has been the most difficult period in my life so far. Fortunately, I'm a survivor and had been taking back my life little by little. Now, I'm determined to enjoy every second that is granted to me.
