“The design of each element should be thought out in order to be easy to make and easy to repair” -Leo Fender
As a musician, our sound is the most important thing that we have in our life. Our sound influences others, and in some cases, changes their lives. And the way we can improve that is also through our instrument. Not just by buying new ones, but by learning the basics of the instrument, and learning the essentials in repairing it.
Hi, I am Dan Jacob L. Manangan, currently a student in the Philippines studying Bachelor of Music Performance, Major in Contrabass. And what I strive for in the future is that all the different kinds of string musicians, whether an electric guitar player or a classical player, may be able to set up or repair their instrument into a local luthier, especially in the Philippines.
In my years of experience as a musician in the Philippines, musicians tend to save money rather than take their instruments to a luthier shop for improvement or repairs. Yes, repairing an instrument sometimes is pricy, but it can save you a lot of time and money in the long run. That is why my future goal is to open an affordable yet quality Luthier shop and to be able to educate others into the basics of Luthier so that they may help others in return.
