As a Mechanical Engineer, I approach problems with a disciplined and logical mind. As an artist, I visualize solutions and imagine possibilities many other engineers would not.
My training is in Mechanical Engineering, with a minor focus in Fine Arts. This combination equips me with an uncommon ability to fuse form and function. Additionally, the artistic training complements the engineering by permitting me to think laterally when straightforward solutions are elusive. I see myself as an inventor.
Thus far my career has been broad in its spectrum. I have designed office furniture and accessories, and I have designed heavy-duty equipment for large conveyor systems. I have worked in a large corporation and I have worked in a business totalling 6 employees. I have been desk-bound-with-calculator, crunching numbers in formulas, and I have been grease-covered in the shop, assembling machine parts. I have modeled components one day, created 3D renderings for marketing the next day, and fulfilled bid requests the next. I have been the multipurpose engineer.
More personally, I have a passion for good environmental stewardship and sustainability. I think that we can have all the creature comforts and technological wonders we so love while maintaining a clean, healthy, beautiful environment. Indeed, technological wonders coupled with common sense will allow it.
Since 7th grade, I have been a distance runner. I started and basically didn't stop. I have won many races and also have been humbled by much better runners. For me it is a never-ending challenge; a chance to improve myself and to explore my limits. Of course, there is the "runner's high". But I also get to see a lot of the scenery I believe is so important to preserve.
I enjoy cooking, and have been commended on my talent. I grow some of my own food and find it to be generally more flavorful and satisfying than what is at the grocery store. Out of necessity but also for pleasure I do a lot of home repair and remodeling. Purely for fun I do magic, and I draw on occasion. You could call me a Renaissance Man - in fact, I actually grew up working at the PA Renaissance Faire - but I just have varied interests and a keen curiosity about the world. I've seen many places and learned many things, but there is still so much more.
