Dante Turner
Chicago, Illinois, United States
I am a Master's Candidate at DePaul University, studying Health Communication. My interests lie in the implementation and evaluation of health initiatives within communities. Through my studies, I have gained experience in organizational assessment within a health context predominately centered around healthcare team dynamics and patient-provider interactions.
Currently, I am working as the Special Events Intern at the American Lung Association in Greater Chicago where I play an integral role in the developement and implemention of fundraising events. My duties range from maintaining sponsor relationships to event logistics. In addition to this role, I assist in advocacy work at health expos and fairs.
In recent years, there has been a huge push towards becoming more health literate as a nation. With the introduction of the Affordable Care Act, we find ourselves, at a pivotal point in time for Amerian Health Care. As the access to health care services is broadening, incorporating more and more individuals, it has become crucial that we begin to change the way we tackle our health. Many Americans find themselves suffering from chronic diseases that are to a large extent preventable. This suggests, that we change our mindset of treatment from reactive care to preventative care. My hopes are to address these needs through health promotion, education, and consulting.
