Finally -- 22 years after my son's death at ten from a congenital heart disease -- I am able to write our story. It's taken many years to get here and a false start, but now the book is underway. It's a big story about a little boy who struggled very hard to live, a little boy who was mischievous and wonderful and who transformed the lives of everyone who entered his. A little boy who spurred me on, as his mother and as a journalist, to pioneer the story of children with disablities in this country in the 80s and early 90s in Parenting magazine, when not one other publication would touch the untold story of these children. If Lucien's father, David Markus, hadn't been the editor-in-chief of Parenting, Lucien's story and the story of his peers would not have been told back then when we were all in the trenches.
