Darius V. Echeverria

An ambitious professional in the field of higher education, Darius V. Echeverria, PhD, holds diverse experience in areas such as teaching, program managing, campus coordinating, and public service. In 2006, Dr. Echeverria joined the faculty of Rutgers University, where he currently serves as a faculty member in the Department of History and the Department of Latino & Hispanic Caribbean Studies. He teaches courses such as Introduction to Latino Studies, the History of Latino Social Movements, Latinos & Community, Latino History, Mexican American History, World Civilizations, and additional American history courses.

The recent teaching experience of Darius V. Echeverria also includes work as a scholar at Montclair State University and as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Swarthmore College. Beyond his career as an professor, he lends his time to statewide public schools and NYC colleges to share his experiences in order to help motivate young people pursue their dreams. In addition, he has actively engaged in administrative duties at the university level. Dr. Echeverria's past experience includes serving on the Judicial Affairs Disciplinary Committee at Temple University while serving on several university ethics committees. Earlier in his professional career, he achieved positions in the White House, the New Jersey Governor's Office and Attorney General's Office, and the U.S. Senate.

Darius V. Echeverria completed his Bachelor of Arts in History at Rutgers University, graduating magna cum laude in 1999. Continuing his education at Temple University, he completed a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in History while on a full scholarship and fellowship. A committed scholar in his field, Dr. Echeverria's works have been published in the Journal of Social History, the Journal of American Ethnic History, the Journal of Southern History, the Southwestern Historical Quarterly, and many other academic publications. In 2013, his first book, prospectively titled Aztlan Arizona, will be published by the University of Arizona Press.Beyond completing Aztlan Arizona, Dr. Echeverria published works in academic journals that include the Southwestern Historical Quarterly, the Journal of American Ethnic History, the Journal of Southern History, the Journal of Social History, and Border-Lines Journal.
