Darlene made her stamp on journalism as a broadcast journalist. She quickly gained notoriety on her very own talk show, The Voice of Wayne State on WAYN Radio. From there, Darlene became known as Lady Lena and became a radio personality alongside, HOT 107,.5’s primary on-air personality, DJBJ “Mr. 3525.” On DJBJ’s show, Darlene reported current events throughout the City of Detroit for an audience during a live Sunday night broadcast.
In addition to broadcast success, Darlene has also been inking her way to success in the print journalism world. She is a consistent, freelance writer for The Detroit News, Detroit Free Press, Michigan Chronicle, Crain’s Detroit Business and has secured many front page stories.
Now Darlene is moving into a new phase of journalism and has started public speaking using vlog platforms. Darlene's content ranges from career advice for up and coming journalists, parenting (she's a mom of the twin toddlers), how to land an internship in college and how to become a successful entrepreneur.
While Darlene is still creating her legacy, she has received a hosts of awards and accolades. However, her career highlight was interviewing Dr. Maya Angelou in 2014, just prior to her passing.
