Darrell Nelson

With a decade of experience working in Japan and Asia, Darrell comes from a background in media and sustainable business. After graduating from Oxford and working in media and PR in the UK he was lured to Japan to study sea turtles on a desert island. Five years roaming Japan he was finally drawn to city-life and went on to head the Kisho Kurokawa Green Institute and the Green Planet Movie Awards while based in Tokyo.

"A fresh air addict and outdoor enthusiast I have grown up conscious of my surrounding natural environment. Having traveled around Japan's small islands swimming in crystal waters, studying coral reefs and nesting turtles I finally gave in to the pull of the neon lights and city energy of Tokyo. With 35million people it is easy to get lost amongst the crowds so I have always held on to that island community spirit. With physical interaction becoming more and more replaced by digital interaction in todays world we can feel surrounded by "friends" yet still be sitting alone. I believe that we still need to foster physical communities if we are to stimulate innovation and ideas, where new movements can be bourn out of mutual passions."
