Darryll Pines of Maryland is President of the University of Maryland and Glenn L. Martin Professor of Aerospace Engineering, leading a flagship, land-grant, R1 research institution in College Park. An aerospace engineer by training, his expertise includes structural health monitoring, smart sensors, adaptive aerospace systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, and spacecraft navigation.
He previously served as Dean of the A. James Clark School of Engineering, where he expanded research capacity, strengthened student programs, and fostered global partnerships.
A fellow of ASME and AIAA and a member of the National Academy of Engineering, he continues to champion inclusive excellence in STEM and the translation of research into broad societal benefit. Education includes a B.S. from UC Berkeley and M.S./Ph.D. from MIT.
