Dave Norris

Captain Dave Norris – San Mateo Police Department

Captain Dave Norris is a 25 year veteran of the City of San Mateo Police Department. He has worked in a number of positions including Criminal Investigations Detective, Narcotics Detective, Field Training Officer and Supervisor, and Patrol Supervisor. Dave was assigned from 2010-2014 to Community and Media Relations, where he set the pace for SMPD’s current community engagement strategy through use of social media and rapid deployment of timely safety messages to the public. Under Dave’s management, SMPD's community alerts and public safety messaging grew from about 400 to over 30,000 direct subscribers.

Dave is assigned as the Captain in Support Services, which oversees SMPD’s Detective Bureau, Support Staff, Recruiting, Youth Services and Public Affairs.

Dave is a former NCAA and Minor League Baseball player. He remains a fan of baseball at all levels, and continues to compete in an adult baseball league.
