I can't say precisely when I began noticing how huge of a role layout & design played in our lives, but I know it was some time in my teens. I spent a lot of time with my parents in my down time. My mom was a home maker mostly, but she was also an accomplish seamstress and worked for Haggar Manufacturing for a while. My dad was a home appliance repair man and had his own workshop on the side where he refurbished used appliances and resold them. I was their helper.
For my mom, I would help cut out sewing patterns, thumb through the periodicals for coupons, and even help with the recipes in the kitchen. For my dad, I helped him take apart appliances, keep stock of the inventory, and keep the spec sheet files up-to-date.
Through all of this "helping," one day something -- a thought, or more precisely, a question -- presented itself. I thought to myself after seeing all of the sewing patterns, coupons, spec sheets, manuals and cookbooks, "Who makes all of this stuff?" Is it one person within the company? A team? An agency? Who? From then on, I took closer notice and became more aware of all of the layout & design in our world.
So, how did all of this shape who I am today?
Well, I'm your go-to guy for visually packaging your messages and creations for mass distribution into the world, whether they be an ad campaign, a cookbook, an advertisement on the web, trade show materials, etc. I've pretty much had my hand in a little bit of everything. My style is minimalist in nature with a technical slant. My finished design pieces tend to have clearly defined sections with bold messaging and imagery. I produce clean, crisp designs that are easy to follow and attractive. I'm really good at taking the mundane and making it interesting. I actually seek out that challenge. My portfolio is comprised of pieces from community journalism publications, visitor's guides, catalogs, trade show materials, photography, direct mail postcards, sales slicks, "You Are Here" maps, signage, email blasts, website content, just to name a few. So far, there hasn't been a project that I've turned down.
If you have an idea or creation that needs to go through final production, I can help. Even if I'm not your guy, I can at least help you go in the right direction.
