Dave Poms

Dave Poms is president of Poms & Associates, an independent commercial insurance and risk management firm in Woodland Hills, Calif. that ranks among the top 50 privately held brokerage firms in the U.S. He founded the agency in 1991. Today, the company has six branches in three states and has been repeatedly recognized as one of the “Top Insurance Workplaces” by Insurance Business America.

Poms was inducted into Insurance Business America's 2020 Hall of Fame for being a “pioneer in problem solving for public entities” who created many public entity risk pools in the western U.S., including the New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority.

For his leadership in commercial business insurance, risk management and loss control and his advocacy for child welfare and school safety issues, Poms was named the 2020 U.S. Insurance Entrepreneur of the Year by the American Business Awards, the 2020 International Entrepreneur of the Year by the International Business Awards and the 2020 Executive of the Year by the BIG Awards for Business presented by Business Intelligence Group.

In both 2019 and 2020, Poms was named to the San Fernando Valley Business Journal's annual “Valley 200” list of the most influential business and community leaders in California's San Fernando Valley. In 2015, he was named to Insurance Business America’s “Hot 100” list of people who have made waves in the insurance industry as thought leaders, influencers, power players and innovators in insurance.

Poms has served on the board of directors for the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation since 2012. In the community, he supports Chaminade College Preparatory in Los Angeles; City of Hope, a private clinical research center and hospital in Duarte, Calif.; The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; and SafeSport, a federally authorized nonprofit organization that works to end abuse in sports.
