A funny thing happened on my way to being an astronaut........
Yes, as a child I really wanted to become an astronaut. I thought the suits looked cool, and that flying in a rocket would be just about the coolest thing ever. To be fair, flying around in a rocket still sounds cool, but my priorities shifted from "cool" to "helpful". I have my grandmother to thank for such a "grounding" in my thinking. (yup....terrible puns are here...and more are coming) While my father was in college, he became friends with immigrants from other countries such as Burma, Lebanon, Korea, and Vietnam. My grandmother decided that they were going to celebrate the holidays with us. She even went so far as to buy Christmas gifts for their children and mark them "From Santa". She was a cashier at a recycling plant, not rich or a person of importance or power, who decided it was best to value people over things.
So, I decided that my contribution to mankind would best be suited here on the ground. For over 12 years, I served as a Certified Pharmacy Technician in the largest hospital in South Texas. My duties included IV compounding, Meditech formulary building, Pyxis machine troubleshooting, and customer relations. As satisfying as that was, I decided to pursue a degree in Communications at Tarleton State University.
I can use my diligence, tenacity, and gumption to assist others who may need my help. By being a technician, that is primarily done through acquiring medications for patients and nursing units. As a communications major, that is achieved by analyzing and deciphering data to reconstruct and repurpose it in an easily comprehended way.
It is imperative to me that every person be treated with respect and care and fairness and an even hand. No matter the job, my goal is to serve people with compassion. To work without compassion is to work without passion, and only the passionate will ever make a difference.
