Ideas deserve more than reporting. They deserve exploration.

My work examines culture, creativity, technology and the systems through which people make sense of the world. Through essays, editorial projects and independent publications, I look for connections between subjects that are too often treated separately.

My professional life began in government and industry before leading me into journalism, publishing and independent writing. Today I work primarily as an essayist and publication architect, drawing on observation, research and experience to explore ideas in depth.

Publications

I publish through a number of related platforms, each reflecting a different stage in the development of ideas.

Radar Signals and Marshall Review identify developments, patterns and questions that deserve attention.

Field Notes records the evidence, observations and sources that inform my work, providing a transparent account of how conclusions are reached.

Those strands come together in Marshall on Policy, where research, analysis and argument are developed into coherent positions and proposals.

Broader questions of culture, society, creativity and civic life are explored through Essays and An Activist's Notebook.

Publication Architecture

As a publication architect, I develop editorial frameworks that help ideas grow into sustained bodies of work. My own publications combine observation, evidence, analysis and reflection across multiple platforms, each serving a distinct role in the development of larger arguments.

Background

My work has appeared across newspapers, magazines, commercial publications and specialist journals. Assignments have ranged from tourism and culture to technology, science, industry and the arts.

Beyond the Page

Away from the desk, I remain a traveller, rambler, sailor and observer of landscapes, places and people. Curiosity has always been the common thread.
