David
Isle of Wight
David Thornton is a singer & songwriter. Originally from Sheffield, and now living on the Isle of Wight, David regularly records and performs with an ever increasing playlist of his own songs and stripped back acoustic covers. He trained as an actor and musician at the National School of Performing Arts in the eighties, and went on to write and produce three stage musicals, before touring with theatre companies and bands in the UK. He wrote his first full length musical production at 17 years old whilst still at school. His musical "The Star in Perspective" was broadcast on BBC radio on Christmas Day 1980. David returned to live performances in 2010 after a twenty year break from playing in public and began writing songs again. He is currently working on a new collection of totally original material called "Starting in the Middle". His influences are many and varied, from Debussy to Elbow. Much of his original material retains a theatrical narrative, he often tells stories through his lyrics and describes places and scenes in his music. Recently David has performed at the Bakewell Folk Music Festival and the Cromford Mills World Heritage Site in Derbyshire, Cowes Week and The Electric Woods (home to Bestival) on the Isle of Wight, and the National Forest Wood Fair as well as local inns, hotels, waterside pubs and many other live music venues up and down the county.
