I am a contemporary realist experimental artist who works in batik. My imagery has changed over the years, from earlier realist pieces that tried to push the boundaries of what is possible in this medium to later work that explores the expressive potential for layering with color and imagery.
My art education centers on an undergraduate degree in Fine Art from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois and another degree in Graphic Arts from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.
I worked for many years in commercial graphics before making a change with my wife (also an artist) about ten years ago to pursue more seriously our interests in fine art. We lived in the central Mexico town of San Miguel de Allende for three years 2004 to 2007 to focus on studio work. We now have a house outside San Miguel that we still use as our artist’s retreat.
I currently live in the art community of Paducah, Kentucky with my wife Stefanie Graves. Together we form Cowango Studios.
