Ijah Williamson

Poulsbo, WA

Ijah is a beautiful three-year old boy from Poulsbo, WA who suffers Pancreatitis, an inflamation of the pancreas that causes debilitating pain, nausea, back spasms, and the inability to digest food.

Pancreatitis is rare in children and often goes undiagnosed for years.

On August 26, 2013, Ijah became the youngest in the world to to receive a Total Pancreanectomy and Auto Islet Cell Transplant at the University of Minnesota, Amplatz Children's Hospital. (See his Fox News Special here)

"Twenty years ago it was believed that pancreatitis and in turn pancreatic cancer is caused by an over-consumption of alcohol. Even today, most physicians don't believe children can get pancreatitis. This statement simply is not true".

It is estimated that close to 60% of all reported cases of Pancreatic Cancer are caused by the same mutation that Ijah, his sister and his father share, but the data is out of date.

Through his story at HelpIjahWin and his mom's Foundation, Ijah and his mother hope to raise awareness across the globe and to change the way Pancreatitis is diagnosed and treated.
