David Gray

Baton Rouge, LA

David Gray is a State Policy Fellow at the Louisiana Budget Project. In this capacity, David raised grant support to launch a statewide asset building and anti-predatory lending workshop series; authors major research reports on Louisiana’s economy and tax structure; and educates state lawmakers about legislation that creates jobs, grows the economy, and benefits working-class families. In addition to working at LBP, David mentors aspiring social entrepreneurs by co-facilitating the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation's Social Entrepreneurship Retreat Weekends. David has also led a Sullivan Foundation group in Costa Rica, where they helped four Costa Rican businesses develop social business plans and track their community impact.

David serves his community by sitting on the East Baton Rouge Parish Food Access Policy Commission. Baton Rouge’s Mayor-President tasked this 13-member cross-sector team of local leaders with proposing solutions to low food access that affects 75,000 residents, including more than 16,000 children. David is also a member of the 100 Black Men of Metro Baton Rouge, where he assists with ACT preparation, health initiatives, youth mentorship programs, and community outreach events.

David earned his Master of Public Policy degree from the University of California, Berkeley after receiving the Goldman Fellowship, a merit-based award granted to the top applicant of each class. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa and Tulane 34 from Tulane University with Bachelor’s degrees in social policy and sociology on a full-tuition scholarship from the New Orleans Mayor’s Office. David is a New Leaders Council Fellow, Politicorps Fellow, StartingBloc Social Innovation Fellow, and Public Policy and International Affairs Junior Summer Institute Fellow.
