David A Raho

I am a probation officer by profession but have also worked as a photojournalist, associate lecturer, primary school teacher in Japan, research & information, trainer, campaigns manager and as a health and safety coordinator for Napo. I am a member of the editorial board of Probation Journal and I am also a member of the Probation Institute Electronic Monitoring Group. I have a long term research interests in electronic monitoring (including biometric reporting kiosks and remote alcohol monitoring), ethics, surveillance, criminology and the policing of protest - and have been known to write about such things. I am also interested in philosophy, control, ethics, and technology and also Actor Network Theory amongst other things that most people inexplicably find excruciatingly dull such as the history of the development of the first CCTV system and other technologies that we now take for granted. I have a life outside of probation as a self confessed geek where I seek out fine coffee shops and drink excellent coffee whilst talking and writing about coffee, technology, politics and science fiction. i am a big fan of William Gibson and Philip K Dick - nuff said
