David Bass

As President and CEO of Raptor Strategies, LLC, based in Washington, D.C., David Bass remains committed to providing public and private sector clients with individually tailored media, public relations, and government relations strategies. With nearly two decades of experience in all aspects of public relations and the media, Mr. Bass runs his firm on the principle that changing times require innovative and nuanced tactics. One area in which David Bass offers particular expertise is media relations: with the size of newsrooms being constantly reduced, existing media operations are increasingly overwhelmed and unable to deal with the barrage of press releases aimed at them. Mr. Bass focuses on establishing professional relationships that cut through the noise, providing quality and concise messaging materials that meet audience expectations.

Raptor Strategies, specializes in media relations, issue advocacy, advertising and domestic and international government relations. Representative industries include aviation, energy, media, financial services, trade association, health care, foreign governments, transportation and veterans support groups.

A graduate of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, David Bass studied political science and psychology. He got his start in Washington, D.C., as a legislative intern before transitioning to the journalism and communications sectors. Prior to establishing Raptor Strategies, he provided counsel to a number of clients focused on government relations. David Bass also advised clients who required regulatory advice in order to interact with government agencies such as the Department of Energy, the Department of State, the Department of Defense, the Department of Commerce, and the Department of the Treasury. He also undertook a number of consultative duties with state-level Departments of Insurance and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

From 1997 to 2004, Mr. Bass served as Deputy Publisher of The Weekly Standard, a political magazine that benefits from a powerful editorial staff and the contributions from prominent think tanks such as Hudson Institute, the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research, and Ethics and Public Policy Center. From 2004 to 2007, he held a position as Managing Director of Qorvis.
