I’m a World Architect, theater director, and immersive experience designer. A World Architect designs the conditions under which an idea becomes a coherent world people can enter, shape, and carry forward. I apply this practice to live performance, immersive events, theme parks, and mixed reality.

I came to World Architecture through theater. Directing taught me that meaning is made through bodies in space, relationships, rhythm, and atmosphere, not through words alone. That understanding guides my work with game design, transmedia, XR, and AI.

I connect research with production. As co-founder and Creative Director of White Horse Immersive, I have developed storyworlds for Alibaba and Tencent. For Oriental Eden in Qingdao, I created multi-path, location-based narrative tools. At Ocean Flower Island, “Magical Mystery Tree” combines performance, gameplay, and AI to explore ecology and planetary futures. “Aurora” is an AR-enabled immersive musical and interactive game.
Spatial Narrative is the methodology beneath this work. Its premise is simple: space is not merely where meaning happens. Space helps make meaning. I study how physical, social, imaginary, and affective environments shape behavior, memory, relationships, and action.

Future Readiness Lab carries this thinking into organizations. I help leaders rehearse uncertainty, notice weak signals, question assumptions, and test possible futures before change becomes crisis. The future cannot be predicted with certainty, but it can be practiced.

As a World Architecture consultant, I work with authors, founders, educators, and organizations whose ideas have outgrown a single project or platform. I help them find the question connecting their work and develop a world around it. This is not personal branding. It gives a body of thought a form others can enter, contribute to, and continue.

I am Professor Emeritus and former Dean at Purchase College, SUNY, where I pioneered curricula in immersive storyworlds and live interactive media. My Fulbright research at FH Salzburg explored theater, game design, AI-assisted narrative, and media literacy. I have taught at IED Turin and collaborated with MIAT in Milan. With UNAMI in Iraq, I used role-play and alternate reality games to support civic participation and climate action. I am an Associate Artist with the David Glass Ensemble.

davidbassuk.com is the publishing and consulting home for my work in World Architecture, Spatial Narrative, Future Readiness, and protopian worldbuilding.
Through it all, I return to one question: What kind of world are we building, and who will it enable people to become?
