David Colin Burke

For more than a decade, David Colin Burke served as the chief executive officer and managing director of Makena Capital Management, LLC, where he provided strategic guidance for an investment firm that handled over $20 billion in client assets. At Makena, David Colin Burke and his partners coordinated with foundations, endowments, sovereign wealth funds, and family offices to grow and preserve multigenerational capital for the long-term.

Mr. Burke’s areas of focus encompassed venture capital and private equity funds, and he served on the boards of numerous investments. A particular innovation was the "outsourced CIO” strategy that has since become widespread across the investment industry.

Mr. Burke graduated with a law degree from the University of Virginia and practiced with the San Francisco law firm of McCutchen, Doyle, Brown, and Enersen in the mid-1990s. Subsequently, he served as an associate with the global law firm Linklaters, where he was a member of the International Capital Markets Group in London and Paris.

Prior to establishing Makena, he served as the managing director of The Investment Fund for Foundations and the Stanford University endowment fund-affiliated Stanford Management Company.
