David Drewe

David joined Crutes on qualifying as a solicitor in 1981. He became a partner in 1986 and has been Chairman of the Firm since 2006.

David has considerable experience of civil litigation including employers’ liability, public liability, professional negligence and road traffic claims for local authorities and insurers, together with experience of handling claims on behalf of insurers arising out of fraud, arson and interpretation of policy wording. He also has extensive experience of managing multi-party actions.

He has acted for local authorities since 1981 and has handled the full spectrum of claims which they experience during his career, including claims against Fire Authorities. He is currently head of the Firm’s Special Claims Unit which handles abuse, stress, bullying and harassment claims, as well as failure to educate cases and those arising under the Human Rights Act. The Unit also deals with the Firm’s disease cases and David currently has a significant caseload of mesothelioma claims where insurers have refused to indemnify local authorities.

David has over 20 years of experience of defending professional negligence claims on behalf of solicitors, brokers, accountants and local authority officers.

Away from the office David is a season ticket holder at Newcastle United and enjoys fell walking and the occasional glass of real ale and red wine.
