David Farbey

I'm a semi-retired technical communication consultant and technical writer and an aspiring photographer. I live with metastatic prostate cancer and lymphoedema.

I had a 30+ year career in technical communication in the technology sector, during which time I wrote, edited, designed, developed, and delivered a wide range of technical and business documents for employers and clients in many industry sectors. For 10 years I was a part-time Associate Lecturer for the distance-learning MA in Technical Communication course at Sheffield Hallam University.

I was a volunteer Council Member of the Institute of Scientific and Technical Communicators, and I chaired TCUK, the UK's leading annual conference for Technical Communication professionals, for four years (2012-2015). Subsequently I was Council Member responsible for Professional Development and Recognition, which included education, training and CPD.

I'm a former Green Party activist and was a general Election candidate in 2024. I'm a Fellow of the RSA where progressive ideas to improve society are explored and developed. I am also a Trustee of the Lymphoedema Support Network.
