david kastner
"As our physical, tactile world collides with an ever-pervasive virtual world, dialogue continues to be at the heart of all human interaction. Finding the interstices that link us to history and humanity, David Kastner has been creating engaging artwork for over 3 decades. David Kastner is a teacher and artist and maintains a pedagogical approach in his work and art, both feeding off of one another. The work he creates embodies formal and conceptual yearnings, often directed at society. Be it a text, a sculpture, or classroom lecture, his work sets up conditions for collective participation. Culling ideas from ancient myth, philosophy, aesthetics, and alchemy, Kastner continues an avant-garde legacy of art making. With a critical eye, his work examines the nature of power, the meaning of existence, how branches of knowledge come to embody form."
