Dr. David Melniczek
A respected, board-certified general surgeon and expert in bariatric weight loss surgery, David Melniczek, MD, contributes his expertise to the Bariatric Surgery division at Butler Memorial Hospital (part of Butler Health System in Butler, Pennsylvania) as Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery. In this role, he provides an innovative, revisional procedure for gastric bypass patients called StomaphyX. The incision-free procedure assists patients whose stomachs have stretched due to weight gain following gastric bypass surgery. David Melniczek, MD, reduces the stomach volume to help patients get back on track with their weight loss. David Melniczek, MD, inserts the StomaphyX device in the patient’s mouth and guides it into the stomach pouch, where he uses it to make folds that look like pleats. After LAP-BAND surgery, patients must eat healthily and exercise to promote continued weight loss, which Dr. David Melniczek helps them address through his on-staff trainer and nutritionist. Other procedures for obese patients include vertical sleeve gastrectomies, which essentially removes half the stomach, and the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery, which reduces the size of the stomach pouch to an ounce or less.
