David Missita

Columbia, South Carolina

In 1996, David Missita joined the United States Marine Corps, where he began Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) 7011: Expeditionary Airfield Systems (EAF) Technician training. An EAF Technician holds many responsibilities, including the employment, operation, inspection, and repair of EAF systems and components, such as airfield AM-2 matting and accessories, communications and airfield lighting and marking, and visual landing aids. Some EAF technicians are responsible for the design of AM-2 airfield facilities as well. As an EAF technician working in aircraft recovery, David Missita was also required to operate, inspect, and maintain systems for Tail Hook aircraft.

To become an EAF Technician, David Missita studied at the Marine Expeditionary Airfield Equipment School in Pensacola, Florida. He was required to possess 20/20 vision and a MM score of 90 or higher. After meeting these criteria, Missita was sent to Tokyo, Japan, where his military career was cut short as the result of a serious accident. He earned an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps in 2001 and also achieved the Good Conduct Medal. During his time with the Corps, David Missita was stationed in several states, including North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, California, and Washington, D.C.

Prior to joining the Marine Corps, David Missita attended high school in California, where he excelled in Spanish courses, a skill he continues to use today. After graduation, he enrolled in ITT Technical Institute and studied electronics engineering technology before joining the Marine Corps. David Missita is an avid sports fan with a strong preference for the Panthers. He enjoys traveling, shopping, and visiting museums.
