David O'Neil
Student, Artist, and Designer in Columbus, Ohio
I’m David O’Neil. I grew up in Kansas, the land of farms and bipolar weather, and around five years ago my family moved to Ohio, which all things considered wasn’t so much of a change (still mostly farms and weather that can’t make up its mind. Less tornado warnings at least.) I’d loved to draw ever since I was a kid, making my own little superhero comics about characters as creative as “Dinosaur-Man” and “Dragon-Man” on pages of printer paper stapled together, scribbled in pencil. I’d always fantasized about the idea of being an artist growing up, but always was held back by the fear it could just be a stupid dream. In the end though, I decided to be a bit stupid and go for it.
I’m someone with a wide range of interests in terms of artistic mediums and genres, and I like to channel all of that into my art. I’m a fan of cartoons, comics, movies, and tv shows, ranging from fantasy, to horror, to science fiction, to comedies, to B-movie action schlock. I try to convey that sort of energy in my art, making stylized, often cartoon-y images focused on characters and simple but dynamic compositions. I mostly work digitally, and I’m experienced using a variety of programs to create images and art in Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, or Clip Studio Paint. My specialty is illustrations, comics, storyboards, and simple animations.
