David R. Dubois
I am combat Marine Veteran & father of 3 wonderful children. I am currently battling Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) caused by contaminated water at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. It was reported that the contamination had began in 1953 & continued til 1987. I was stationed at Camp Lejeune from 1986 til 1989. Some of the chemicals found in the water at Camp Lejeune were chemicals used for dry cleaning. There were many types of poisonous chemicals found but, much of that information has not been released to the public. The businesses responsible for that contamination have been closed for many years&those responsible more than likely since passed away&their names have been buried in a mountain of paperwork by our government. Government agencies who are aware that like me, thousands more are dying & have died from this event. It is not just service members but, civilians along with family that lived & worked their during that time. True to form they choose to cover up, deny or make it impossible for people like me & or family members who have been impacted by this to collect any compensation. Repayment for the thousands of dollars they have spent &still owe for medical costs because of the severe illnesses caused by the chemicals in the water supply. My type of leukemia is aggressive. It is my second battle with AML. I can be saved but, am running out of time. The VA is helping to pay for my taking care of my health care and the bone marrow transplant which is needed to save my life. This still leaves me, however, with many thousands that I will have to pay during & after for post-op care. Currently I am also fighting the VA for full disability due to this horrible cancer caused by the drinking water. Due to my treatment and my chemo, it has made it impossible for me to work. I have many days that I am extremely incoherent & cognitive abilities are poor. Most of my time is currently spent resting in bed, making trips back to the VA for blood transfusions, being treating for infections, having labs drawn weekly, & or receiving fluids because of dehydration.
