David Ryan
Software Engineer and Computer Vision Engineer in Brisbane, Australia
I have worked at Sentient Vision Systems for 5 years as a computer vision engineer and engineering team lead.
Sentient is based in Melbourne and operates in the defence industry, developing systems for automated detection and ranging of objects in both land and maritime environments.
I completed my Ph.D. in the field of computer vision at Queensland University of Technology (QUT). My thesis, entitled "Crowd Monitoring Using Computer Vision", focused on automated surveillance of human behaviour from video footage. The applications included crowd counting, crowd flow monitoring, queue analysis and abnormal event detection.
I have additional experience in the field of intelligent transport systems. During my research I developed a traffic monitoring application using computer vision, in which feature point tracking was used to monitor vehicle throughput at intersections automatically. I have also performed software testing in a mining vehicle tracking application at Leica Geosystems.
My programming experience includes 10+ years of C/C++, Python and MATLAB development. I have substantial experience and expertise in the fields of image processing, computer vision, machine learning, signal processing and software development.
Through the course of my research I have implemented and utilised many statistical and machine learning technologies.
I continue to take an active interest in the evolving fields of visual surveillance and artificial intelligence.
