David Shein

Independent Educational Consultant in Red Hook, NY, USA

I am an educator, academic leader, and independent consultant with more than 25 years of experience in higher education. I grew up in Yorktown Heights, New York, and as a first-generation college student, I navigated college without a clear roadmap. That experience has shaped my entire career and continues to guide my work today.

I earned my undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Political Science from SUNY Oswego, graduating magna cum laude, and later completed my PhD in Philosophy at the CUNY Graduate Center. While in graduate school, I began working at Lehman College, where I focused on core curriculum and academic support.

In 1999, I joined Bard College, where I spent over two decades in a variety of leadership roles, most recently as Vice President for Student Success and Network Integration. During my time there, I helped build programs that support students both inside and outside the classroom, including the Learning Commons, Disability Support Services, and the Center for Student Life and Advising.

Today, I run an independent consulting practice focused on helping institutions create more accessible and meaningful learning experiences for students.
