David Wayne Wright
David Wright is an entrepreneur, business owner, workshop facilitator and motivational speaker. At the age of 21 Dave faced challenges that tested his ability to literally rise from ashes. Despite those challenges he not only battled to gain back all that he lost, but with a strong sense of purpose and vision for his future, he willed himself to accomplish what others thought was improbable and continues to motivate others with his life story. Born in Toronto and raised in Markham, David was heavily involved in school sports and extracurricular activities. He credits his high school teachers for allowing him to pursue his interests and emerge as an intelligent and talented young man. After graduating from Milliken Mills High School, where he first starting cutting hair for his friends during lunch hour, in between classes and on weekends, David went on to complete a Law Enforcement Course and Social Services at Seneca College . In 1993, Dave involved in a horrific car accident that left him physically injured and grateful that he was alive. The car accident would soon come back to haunt Dave, as an injury that went unchecked was slowly creating havoc inside his body. One day, while David was home he felt a sharp pain in his chest. He was having a stroke. Although, David lived a healthy life and was athletic and had no characteristics of a patient with heart disease or other aliments. The car accident a year before, had created a blood clot that had over time which led to a stroke. David spent over 2 1/2 months in hospital and over a year in rehab. He had lost the ability to properly speak, eat, walk, and complete basic everyday tasks like he would normally. He was fully dependent on others to take care of him and nurse him back to health. His prognosis was not encouraging. His doctors had determined that due to the severity of a stroke, David would never walk again. He would have mobility issues and would need a wheel-chair, and would need therapy to learn how to walk and take care of himself. This would be David’s new normal. David’s parents, family and friends spent many hours in prayer for his full recovery. But, it took his own determination, personal faith and belief that God wasn’t through with him yet, for him to emotionally and physically work towards his full recovery. It took 2 years, but with a strong will and perseverance, David was able to walk again and live a normal life.
