Davis Darvish Ph.D.
Research Scientist in West Hollywood, California
Dr. Davis Darvish is a materials scientist, applied physicist, and technology leader specializing in translating advanced materials research into manufacturable hardware. A first-generation American of Iranian descent, he has built his career at the intersection of deep physics, process engineering, and real-world production, leading programs across semiconductors, medical devices, aerospace, and renewable energy.
He earned his B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from UC Berkeley and both his M.S. in Applied Physics and Ph.D. in Materials Science from Caltech, where his research advanced thin-film semiconductors, crystal growth, and next-generation energy technologies including photovoltaics and thermoelectrics.
Dr. Darvish is the Founder and Managing Director of D613 Labs, a deep-tech R&D and engineering consultancy where he leads materials engineering, process development, manufacturing scale-up, and failure analysis for high-performance hardware companies. His work has delivered step-function improvements in yield, cost, and reliability, including increasing semiconductor device yield from 5% to 80%, reducing testing costs by 80%, scaling pilot processes to production, and commissioning multimillion-dollar capital equipment programs. He has guided cross-functional teams from concept through new product introduction and high-volume manufacturing.
Previously an Intel Rotational Engineering Leadership Fellow, he has extensive experience aligning engineering, operations, and quality organizations to execute complex technical roadmaps under aggressive timelines.
His technical expertise spans device fabrication (MBE, sputtering, e-beam, CMP, lithography), advanced materials characterization (SEM/EDS, FIB, XRD, TEM, SQUID, Hall, ellipsometry), metallurgical and aerospace failure analysis, and precision manufacturing systems. His innovations have been recognized by IEEE PVSC, and he holds multiple patents and patent applications.
Dr. Darvish is known for combining first-principles thinking with pragmatic execution—equally comfortable deriving the physics, building the toolchain, and running the production line.
