I grew up in a small country town located in Southeast WI. My Parents were both do it yourselfers that passed down their many skills and talents of home repair, sewing, gardening, mechanics and much more. The thing I loved the most about growing up country was walking down those roads at night. You could stare up at what seemed like an endless supply of bright, beautiful stars that lit up the nights’ path to wherever your feet wanted to take you.
It was in my late teens that I decided to head out on my own and join the U.S. Navy. I had some previous schooling in various shop classes so it was a natural progression that I became a machinery repairman. I had a choice of shore or sea duty. I chose the sea and found myself stationed onboard the greatest ship in the fleet, the U.S.S. Prairie A.D.15. I did a little traveling, and saw the world through a little porthole; as my grandfather so eloquently suggested I do. After my military service, I stayed out in California for a while milling about until I felt the pull of my roots calling me back to Wisconsin.
I continued my work as a machinist for a while until that inner drive of wanting to learn something different drove me to the world of Technology. I bought my first computer, (paid way too much for it), and stumbled around trying to figure out what to do with the darn thing now that I got it.
After fumbling around and learning basic computers, I soon realized I needed some schooling to make a real career change. I attended three different colleges earning various degrees in Computer Science and picked up a couple certifications along the way as well. I have since been working with technology for over a decade now and I find there is always something new to learn each day.
I love the fact that I still get amazed at the new technologies and want to learn more and more each day, like a child soaking up all the new wonders of the world. I find that after all this time and all the traveling; I am still out there following those same stars down whatever path they lead me.
