Dawn Van Skiver
Hi. I'm Dawn, which is kind of clear from the very large title above. Well after all this is "about.me". Anyway, I have many passions in life one of which is teaching and another is travelling.
I teach students who have learning disabilities. The students I work with have average to above average cognitive abilities (IQ’s) but they have challenges with learning such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, and anxieties, etc. I help them to succeed in school, which is the really great part of my job because I see students graduate who may otherwise fall through the cracks. I feel very fortunate to work with such amazing young people. They keep me on my toes and keep me young. I love my job:)
Someone once told me that if you love what you do you will never work a day in your life. Well, if that is true then I guess I will never work a day in my life. However, that doesn't mean I don't want to retire at some point. I'm not crazy! Another passion of mine is I love to travel and hope to do a lot more of it when I....retire. There are many places in this world I have not been to and my goal is to visit as many as I possibly can while I am healthy and young. I also like to travel around my own back yard. I generally do a hiking trip in our beautiful province once a year with some friends. This summer we hiked the West Coast Trail which was a real accomplishment for me. Strapping on a back pack, which was more than a third of my weight, day after day, was the biggest challenge of all. I also enjoy running, biking and basically just doing things to stay physically fit. Recently, I have completed a triathlon which was a challenging because I just learned how to swim. Well that’s about it for me.
