Day trading refers to purchases and sales of stock market values that, unlike normal trading, are transacted within a day. The history of day trading began in the 1970s with the advent of computerized trading. Private traders in the USA had the opportunity to do this type of exchange trading in 1996, and a year later private day trading was also possible in Germany. However, day trading only became really popular through the Internet, as traders can track the prices of securities here in real time.

There are hardly any limitations with regard to short-term stock market prices - day trading is possible, for example, with equities, binary options or foreign exchange (forex stocks). In practice, however, highly leveraged derivative financial instruments such as CFDs play the largest role in day trading.
