Hello everyone! My name is Dru Beattie. I am a mom of three, rather was a mom of three, and grandma to one. I am also a senior at the University of Alabama. I am working to complete my B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies with a depth study in Leadership.

March 7th of this year, our lives were forever changed when one of our then twenty year old twins was killed while riding in a car that was involved in a suspected drunk driving accident. Almost five month later, it still does not seem real.

From the night of the accident, before we even left the hospital, I knew that I wanted to do anything I could to help prevent even one more family from going through what we have.

I spoke at her service, and the following Friday, the day before prom, I spoke to the high school where she and her twin sister graduated from, and her younger sister will be a senior this year. I thought I was reaching out to the kids, and instead they reached out to me...What a gift!

I am working to speak with all the high school and college students I can. It is how I am trying to cope with our loss and make something good out of it, hopefully in a way that honors our daughter's legacy. If you know of any schools or group that I can come speak to, please let me know. As long as I can cover my expenses, I'd love to come speak and meet with the kids.

I am just starting to get back into my school work so I can have something to keep me busy and call my own. Our daughter really struggled in college, yet I refused to let her give up. I figure that I should practice what I preach, and lead by example.

If I can help anyone who is reading this, just let me know. I'll be happy to help anyway I can.

We can all make a difference! What kind of a difference will you make?
