Growing up, my Grandmother was a fashion designer and she was always very meticulous about the fabrics she would craft pieces with. Fabrics that would not only feel great but stand out from afar as well. She prized captivating others while remaining “different” from the rest of the crowd. She gave me my name Dionè and implanted the value of idiosyncrasy within me. From my thought processes to clothing, art, architecture, society and many more topics I find myself looking at them from more of a different perspective than most; however, I always admired hearing others inputs and views of subjects as it allows me to deepen my own interpretation.
In middle school, I would customize my shoes to have an unconventional pair that only I would have. Some shoes brought compliments while some could cause a few to make a stank face. In high school, I would personalize and make multiple pieces of clothes for me to wear. Not because I didn't want to be like others, but due to me just valuing to carry myself in a distinctive manner. I wasn't looked at as an outcast and only called weird a few times but being different, or idiosyncratic as I like to call it, is something I would not change as I was always told, "if we were, all the same, the world wouldn’t be as interesting".
