Dworshak Dam
Ahsahka, ID
The tallest straight axis concrete gravity dam in the western hemisphere, completed in 1973 by the US Army Corps of Engineers. The Dam was built for flood control, navigation, recreation, hydropower, and fish and wildlife benefits. We are located in beautiful North Central Idaho near the community of Orofino, on the North Fork of the Clearwater River.
The dam backs up a 54 mile Reservoir that provides the public with recreational opportunities that includes boating, fishing, hunting, picnicking, camping, wildlife viewing, hiking, backpacking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and swimming. There are five campgrounds, over 100 shore mini camps, four day use areas, a three story visitor center, and miles of non-motorized trails, (motorized trails are soon to be developed).
Come experience this hidden recreation gem whether you are camping at one of our campgrounds, enjoying the beautiful scenery, fishing the Chinook Salmon and Steelhead runs on the Clearwater River, hunting elk, deer or turkey, or just enjoying a nice boat ride on the Reservoir.
