Dean has experience and knowledge from a long international career as an artist and educator. Well regarded in the field of contemporary music, he has received critical acclaim for highly crafted albums in avant garde, electronica, sound installations, composed music for dance, theater and film. With a background as a musician his music was described by The Wire magazine as “less of an attempt to blend genres than a demonstration of how for the truly imaginative, genres remain utterly meaningless.” One live performance is listed in the Wire’s A-list of "30 Concerts that Shook the Planet" alongside the likes of My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, Autechre et al.) His album "All Cracked Medias" is considered by many to be a touchstone in experimental, generative or "post rock" music. He has composed music for live theater and contemporary dance, film and art installation. Dean is additionally a trained fine-art preparator, installation artist and writer.

Dean has been for over 20 years producing albums, touring and lecturing at various institutions in the USA, New Zealand, Australia, Italy, and Germany. He runs a lecturer series in music/sound and popular cultural analysis on the degree program at dBs Berlin and supervises the Honours Degree dissertation program at dBs Berlin, www.dbsmusic.net
