Influential Child Care Training

South East

I started my career as a nursery nurse. I moved to be a deputy manager of a full day care nursery in hospital grounds. I became the manager and we expanded to a 50 place nursery with 12 staff. I started work as an inspector for a local authority in 1993. (North London) This was early days for regulatory work and I quickly became adept at understanding and applying regulations in a sensible and practical way. At that time inspectors carried out both regulation as well as advice, support and training. I unfortunately had some harrowing cases to deal with that involved sexual abuse. However as a result I gained greater skills in how the law functions.

In September 2001, I began my career in Ofsted. I worked as an inspector for a week before being given a job at Ofsted's headquarters. My tasks during this time were to interpret the law and write policy's and procedures for Ofsted's early years inspectors and leaflets for providers to give them a better understanding of regulation. I also wrote and delivered training to Inspectors and Compliance teams.

In July 2003, I decided to move back to the field and undertook a special project in London to assist the compliance team with their auditing and began managing 8 early years inspectors in North West London. I continued to carry out inspections and monitoring visits and to provide training to inspectors. In June 2006, I became an area manager, initially managing a team of 7 team managers and being responsible for 45 inspectors. I worked as an area manager for Ofsted in various locations over the South of England and also undertook special projects. I responded to complaints against Ofsted making decisions to overturn inspection judgements when inspectors had made errors, making decisions on refusing to register providers or cancelling registrations. I also gained a level 5 in leadership and management.

In September 2009, I began work as an investigator for Ofsted, a regulatory inspector. I was responsible for investigating and reporting on serious concerns as well as conducting suitability interviews for waivers. I gained my NVQ level 7 in investigative practive.

In June 2012 I had concerns at the way the regulations were changing and the impact this would have on day care. I was finding that most people were trying very hard to meet the regulations but were not receiving the support.

I run a company training in regulations. Low cost but high quality.
