Appreciative sums it up I think, but I guess I should elaborate. So many great experiences the last few years. Dog-eat-dog TV Advertising sales gave way to the 2008 crisis and I checked out...AND INTO a long, beautifully self-indulgent summer in Itlay and 3 years in France. Living in a dreamy medieval village in the French countryside - farmer's market every Saturday morning and tons of delicious Patisseries. Awesome. The French language is by far the hardest of the 4 languages I've tried to learn, but it was a labor of love and so I was inclined to do my best.
Working in Italy? haha, yea right. Nobody works in Italy. But I did manage in FR. I started as an English teacher but once I had a firm grasp of French I was tossed back into sales, landing a permanent role with a high tech language institute. Here I picked up tons of technology experience: Augmented Reality (what?) Game Design, Game Dev, Web Dev and exposure to all the cool lanugages that come along with that: C#/.Net, C++, Objective C, Java, Ruby, Scala
Didn't even know I was recruiting and I had NO idea how to go about it. But I held job hunting seminars, canvassed local businesses to hire students, brought students in to learn about the school, posted on job boards and interviewed candidates. It was one of the most challenging and rewarding roles and of my life. Using my sales background to actually make a difference in other people's lives was invigorating! I ended up doing a great job in spite of some strategically placed hurdles and at the same time managed to finish my Bachelor's degree with a sweet GPA. During this whole experience I learned what success really means to me.
Once I returned stateside I knew I could only continue in a job that helped others. Fortunately I found a great startup recruiting firm with a veteran team in Atlanta that was looking for someone like me! Love at first interview, I grabbed the opportunity and never looked back.
Now I'm learning faster than ever before about technology and the process of hiring and being hired. I've made so many friends in software development that I've decided to try my hand at the craft. < I am not a developer, so I will never claim to be hacking anything, as cool as it would feel to say that. I'm just a green bean pseudo coder excited about learning!>
Please shoot me a note if I can help you network in Atlanta. I'm all ears and would love to help!
