Deborah J. Atkinson, MBA

Proofreader in Tampa, Florida

Hi! I’m a proofreader with a focus on proofreading transcripts for court reporters. I understand the court reporter’s unique challenge of producing an clear, readable document while preserving the verbatim record. I will review your transcript for formatting, consistency, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, word usage, and mistranslations. This includes light research and fact-checking as necessary.

I rely on Morson’s English Guide for Court Reporters as a general reference as well as the Gregg Reference Manual. Corrections are returned via e-mail as annotated PDF pages.

Please submit your work in PDF only as the transcript will look better if it’s converted on your end within your software.

Please be sure the transcript is a finished/edited version (not rough). If it’s more than 50 pages, please send the job in 50 page sections if possible. That way I can proofread a portion while you’re working on the next portion. Giving me a heads up in advance and sending the job in sections is very helpful for large jobs with standard turnaround as well.

Corrections are returned via e-mail as annotated PDF pages. You will see both red text and yellow highlighting on your annotated PDF file, and all pages will have corrections or notes of some kind. You must open the file in the latest version of Adobe Reader (rather than viewing in a browser or on a mobile device) to ensure all corrections are visible.
