I was born in Hong Kong (HK) in December 1997 and immigrated to Markham Ontario with my family in July 2007. My Canadian education began in grade 4 and I instantly fell in love with schooling – this was life-changing. Contrary to the dictatorial and competitive education in HK, here in Canada, I was free to play, to create, and to explore what makes my heart soar. My elementary school teachers were my role models and they made me feel safe and known because they made the effort to get to know me and to make my schooling experience special. Thus, going to school became an intrinsic motivation because school was a safe haven and I found joy in learning.
This passion for education overflowed into the discovery of many hobbies, talents and interests outside of school. I reminisce about the days of competitive swimming and weekends of softball games, which I still engage in but on a recreational level. Most days now, I enjoy the thrill of entering the world of fantasy through novels, shows and movies. I love to watercolour, cook and I like to teach my friends about my Asian culture through food. I have grown to love reading and talking about intellectually stimulating topics of philosophy, faith, psychology and social justice. My current academic interest is in disability studies and the rhetoric of health and medicine.
Above all, teaching is my calling and deepest passion because working with children brings out this unspeakable joy in me that takes me back to my elementary school days. I desire to foster the pleasure of learning and the thirst for knowledge in children that will teach them to be empathetic and drive them to seek ways to give back to society, love people better and to make the world a better place.
