Patrick DECHERCHI

Patrick Decherchi is full professor at Aix-Marseille University and the CNRS. He earned a Ph.D. in neurobiology/neurophysiology from Paul Cézanne University (Aix-Marseille III) in 1996. From 1997 to 1999, he worked at the laboratory of neurobiology (Norman and Sadie Lee Research Center, Mill Hill, London) of the National Institute for Medical Research, led by Professor Geoffrey Raisman. In 1999, he became an associate professor at the University of the Mediterranean (Aix-Marseille II) and completed his habilitation, which was granted in 2004. In 2014, he became full professor. He is the recipient of the 2002 Jansen Prize from the French National Academy of Medicine for his work on spinal cord repair using cells derived from the olfactory bulb and peripheral nerves. He currently works at the Institute of Movement Sciences (Etienne-Jules Marey). His research focuses on movement and the systems involved in its production under normal conditions throughout the lifespan, following physical exercise (acute or chronic), induced fatigue, or a medical condition (ligament or tendon injury, knee pain, plantar fasciitis, osteoarthritis, and nervous system disorders), whether or not associated with a medical procedure and/or a rehabilitation protocol. More specifically, he focuses on the plasticity of motor, respiratory, and cardiovascular neural networks and the muscular adaptations involved in movement, as well as the development of sensorimotor recovery strategies.
