Deck Building

In deck building to gain height, you can use polymer studs. They must rest on a concrete slab or continuous stabilized raw soil with a minimum load-bearing capacity of 2 bars. The seat structure can also be metallic. The joists are then fastened using brackets, bolts or self-drilling screws. Those of the blades are done by bolting or self-drilling screws.

Once the support is ready and your seat structure is complete, you can start the next step: the wooden decking. This load-bearing structure is made from slats, slabs or wooden gratings, which will be fixed to the seat structure.

Cutting: try to be thorough and well equipped! Take a tape measure and a marker to note the dimensions and mark the marks for cutting.

Installation: according to professional rule, each end of the board must rest on a joist. In the event of proximity to a fixed point (wall), the strip is spaced 5 to 10 mm apart.

Fixing: the boards (or slabs) are fixed to the joists by screwing or nailing using direct through devices or by using side brackets. Screwing on a wooden support can be passed through from above or carried out from below. For more comfort, use an electric screwdriver!

Sizing tables for calculating the spacing of the slats can be found in the NF DTU 51.4 standard on wooden decks. Try to screw the elements (planks, tiles) consecutively.

Precision cutting: for a better rendering at the end of construction, it may be necessary to equalize the wooden boards after assembly. Using a circular saw will help make clean cuts.

Cladding: the addition of finishing plinths will hide the support of the wooden terrace (support, joists and boards). It is in the attention to detail that we recognize quality work.

Straightening or unbalancing: if the decking boards are curved, you will need to straighten them. This problem happens very regularly. To do this, use a strap or a blade straightener.
