Dede Cummingsis a writer, literary agent/publisher and commentator for Vermont Public Radio. At Middlebury College, she was the recipient of the Mary Dunning Thwing Award, attended the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference as an undergraduate fellow, and studied with Hayden Carruth at the Bennington Writers’ Workshop. In 2013, she was a poetry contributor to the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference. Her poetry has been published in Mademoiselle, TheLake, InQuire, Vending Machine Press, Kentucky Review, Connotation Press, Mom Egg Review, Figroot Press, and Bloodroot Literary Magazine. She was a Discover/The Nation poetry semi-finalist and was awarded a writer’s grant and a partial fellowship from the Vermont Studio Center. Her poetry collection To Look Out From was the winner of the 2016 Homebound Publications Poetry Prize came out in 2017. Her upcoming poetry collection, entitled The Meeting Place, is due out in May 2018 from Salmon Poetry.

Throughout the 1980s, Dede worked in publishing at Little, Brown & Company, rising to senior book designer. She has designed many award-winning books by such authors as Thomas Pynchon, Mary Oliver, William Shirer, Andre Dubus II, and is a five-time winner of the new England Book Award, including two additional awards for “best in show” for Sorochintzy Fair by Nikolai Gogol, and World Alone/Mundo a Solas by Nobel Prize Winner, Vincente Alexandro.

Dede lives next to an apple orchard on a dirt road in West Brattleboro, Vermont. Her home/office is powered by solar panels.

In her role as publisher of Green Writers Press, she is looking for environmentally-themed fiction, poetry and nonfiction (childrens-adult). In addition to her work as a literary agent, she also has a new publishing imprint to work one-on-one with authors at DCDesign Books. where she acquires books that tell literary and compelling stories with a focus on writing about place.

Dede and GWP author, Tim Weed, co-lead writing and adventure travel trips with an environmental theme and focus—Cuba 2018 is going in April 2018.
