DEDE
Though nearly a year before the two would actually sit down and record a song, the genesis of DEDE (Dede Reynolds and Tim K) was a conversation under a Californian Meyer Lemon tree. The arc of the conversation took a sudden turn upon mentioning the music of Serge Gainsbourg. Their principals found also a shared love of 1960’s fashion, Nico, Exotica, Francois Hardy, in addition to a shared distaste for most contemporary music. The postulate of a collaboration became a challenge, and the duo began the first of many marathon writing and recording sessions. The duo combined the hyper simplicity of the modern music palette, with an indie sensibility. DEDE’s music instantly was a stark contrast of a girlish voice with a dark and beautiful post-rock backdrop. The sounds of 60’s and 70’s keyboards melted with modern drum sounds and a feminine pure voice. This mixture – fresh though nostalgically familiar – is the sound of DEDE.
