Deeba Zivari has an M.S. in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University and a B.A. in Comparative Literature from Wellesley College. Herrigorous study of narrative structures, built environments, and health care systems is in pursuit of integrative design that advances active living. Deeba is currently the Director of Operations and Engagement at Metro Physical Therapy, where thirty years of experience and an evolving company framework seek to reform functionalism and performance from the domestic to corporate spheres.
As a Persian American Jew story was the amber of legacy; when she added Queer to her identities her definition of home was challenged and the role of storytelling in co-creating emancipation became more evident. "One must live to build one's house, and not build one's house to live in"(Gaston Bachelard, Poetics of Space). Through numerous fellowships, travels, publication exercises, and community development events, Deeba has explored the relationship between narrative, gender identity, and belonging.
