DeJa Smith

Student in Baton Rouge, Louisiana

I am currently a student at Louisiana State University (LSU) studying Mass Communication with a concentration in Political Communication. I am an intern for Baton Rouge's Democratic mayoral candidate Sharon Weston Broome. I am also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the Association of Black Communicators and a Resident Assistant at LSU. I was awarded the Walter Hitesman Endowed Scholarship and multiple Dean's List awards for academic achievement at my university. I am an Ambassador at the Manship School of Mass Communication and I was also awarded the LSU Manship School's Knight Grant for my social media project entitled "#theEBONYproject" which focuses on LSU's African American students giving their opinions on the different issues they face being the minority at a major university. After my collegiate career I would like to use my skills to pursue a career in state government as a project manager to allocate services to disadvantaged communities. I am also interested in and capable to pursue a career in community outreach and diversity management.
